Sildenafil is an FDA-approved medication used primarily for two conditions, with dosages ranging from 20 to 100 mg, depending on the condition:
- Erectile dysfunction (ED): As the brand-name drug Viagra, sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help a man achieve and maintain an erection during sexual arousal.
- Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH): As the brand-name drug Revatio, sildenafil relaxes the blood vessels in the lungs to reduce blood pressure and ease the workload on the heart. It is taken regularly, often in a lower dose, to improve exercise ability in adults.
